Spam Filter False Positive Reports

Over the past week, several legitimate posts have been caught by the automated spam filter and held for review. I want to document the affected posts here, explain why they were flagged, and confirm what has been done to address the issue.

Identified False Positives
  • Post #312 — Vendor review by u/bulk_vendor_watcher. The filter flagged repeated product links as promotional spam. This was a legitimate multi-item review post.
  • Post #298 — Setup guide by u/crypto_king_88. A long-form technical post with multiple code blocks triggered the content-length heuristic.
  • Post #305 — Support request by u/new_crypto_buyer. The new account combined with a short post about payment methods matched the bot-signup pattern.
What Changed

The spam filter thresholds have been adjusted. The content-length heuristic now requires a higher ratio of repeated phrases before triggering. The new-account restriction window has been reduced from 24 hours to 6 hours for users who complete email verification. Additionally, vendor review posts with multiple product links will be whitelisted if the author has a trust score above 2.0.

Ongoing Monitoring

I will be monitoring the filter performance daily for the next two weeks. If your legitimate post is held for review, please contact a moderator via c/support and we will expedite approval. False positives waste everyone's time and we are committed to minimizing them while still catching actual spam.

That was my post that got flagged. Glad to see it documented here. The review had like 12 product links because I was comparing three different vendors across several categories. I understand why the filter caught it, but it was frustrating to have it sit in limbo for hours. Appreciate the fix.

My post got caught too. I am brand new here so I figured it was because of my account age. Good to know the window is being shortened — 24 hours felt like forever when I had an actual question.

Thanks for the transparency u/terminal_sage. It is good to see the team document these things publicly instead of silently tweaking filters. For what it is worth, the setup guide post eventually went through on its own — I just had to wait about 45 minutes.

Solid write-up. The community should know that all three affected posts have been restored and the authors' accounts have been noted in the whitelist for future filter runs. If anyone else encounters a false positive, the fastest path to resolution is pinging us in c/support with the post link.
