Escrow System Performance Review — Q4

This is the quarterly performance review for the platform's escrow system covering Q4 2024. All figures are based on transactions processed through the official escrow module between October 1 and the date of this report.

Key Metrics
  • Total transactions processed: 4,312
  • Successful completions: 4,256 (98.7%)
  • Disputes filed: 56 (1.3%)
  • Average dispute resolution time: 4.2 hours
  • Funds held in escrow simultaneously (peak): $1.2M across 342 active sessions
Dispute Breakdown
  • Non-delivery claims: 31 (55.4% of disputes) — 28 resolved in favor of buyer, 3 in favor of vendor after proof of shipment.
  • Item not as described: 14 (25.0%) — 9 resolved with partial refund, 5 with full refund.
  • Vendor timeout: 7 (12.5%) — All resolved with full buyer refund. Vendors received trust score penalties.
  • Buyer timeout: 4 (7.1%) — Funds released to vendor after confirmation window expired.
Improvements Deployed

This quarter we shipped several improvements to the escrow module: real-time tracking notifications for both parties, a 48-hour confirmation window instead of the previous 24-hour window, and an automated escalation system that routes disputes to moderators within 30 minutes of filing. Average resolution time dropped from 6.8 hours in Q3 to 4.2 hours in Q4.

Recommendations

Based on this data, I recommend extending the buyer confirmation window to 72 hours for international shipments and implementing a vendor response timeout of 12 hours (down from 24). Both changes would reduce dispute volume and improve resolution speed. The mod team should review these proposals and put them to community vote if there is sufficient interest.

The 98.7% success rate is impressive. Quick question on the disputes — how many of the 31 non-delivery claims turned out to be actual scams versus packages that were just delayed or lost in transit? It would be useful to see that breakdown for vendor accountability purposes.

Good question. Of the 31 non-delivery claims, 9 were confirmed scams where the vendor provided no shipping evidence and their accounts were subsequently banned. The remaining 22 were resolved as legitimate shipping issues — packages delayed, lost, or delivered to wrong address. In those cases, buyers received full refunds and vendors were not penalized unless they had a pattern of shipping complaints.

Solid report. The 4.2-hour average resolution is a big improvement over last quarter. Extending the confirmation window for international shipments makes a lot of sense — customs delays are unpredictable and 24 hours was never realistic for cross-border packages. I would support putting both proposals to a community vote.
