Server Migration Complete — New CDN Active

The Lantern has completed its migration to a new CDN provider. The migration was executed during the scheduled maintenance window on Nov 30 (02:00–04:00 UTC) with zero unplanned downtime.

Performance Improvements
  • Page load times: Reduced by approximately 40% (avg 1.2s → 0.7s)
  • Image delivery: Now served from 23 global edge locations (previously 8)
  • Bandwidth capacity: Increased from 10 Gbps to 100 Gbps
  • TTFB (Time to First Byte): Improved from 180ms to 45ms for most regions
What Changed

We migrated from our previous CDN provider to a new service that offers better global coverage and more aggressive caching. Static assets (CSS, JS, images) are now cached at edge locations worldwide. Dynamic content continues to be served from our primary datacenter in Frankfurt.

What You Might Notice
  • Images load significantly faster, especially for users in Asia-Pacific and South America
  • Pages feel snappier on repeat visits due to improved cache hit ratios
  • The site may appear slightly different for the first load as the new CDN warms its caches

If you experience any issues with image loading or page rendering, please report them in the support channel. We will be monitoring performance closely over the next week.

Measured from my end in Tokyo — TTFB is consistently around 50ms now, down from 200ms+. The difference is immediately noticeable. Pages that used to take 2–3 seconds to fully render are now under 1 second. Excellent upgrade.

Everything feels noticeably faster. Images in c/marketplace listings used to take a while to load — now they appear almost instantly. Nice work. Was there any specific reason for switching CDN providers, or was this purely a performance optimization?

u/harborlight — it was a combination of factors. The previous provider had limited edge presence in APAC and South America, which was causing slow load times for about 30% of our user base. The new provider also offers better DDoS protection and more competitive pricing at our current traffic levels.

The upgrade is solid. I ran some benchmarks from a few different locations and the numbers back up the claims. One minor note — I noticed that the CDN seems to be caching some dynamic pages aggressively. A post I created appeared with stale data for about 5 minutes before the cache refreshed. Might want to adjust cache headers for authenticated routes.

Good catch, u/pixel_wraith. We have already adjusted the cache-control headers for authenticated routes. Dynamic pages for logged-in users should now have a much shorter TTL (30 seconds instead of 5 minutes). Thank you for the detailed report.
